Bay window measuring guide

How to measure
an angled bay

Angled bays need four measurements — three widths and one height. All you need is a tape measure and a few minutes. Don't worry about being precise, that's what our survey is for.

1

Measure Width A — Left Side

Measure the left angled section of your bay, from the back wall to the first angle, in millimetres.

2

Measure Width B — Centre

Measure the front section of your bay, from the left angle to the right angle, in millimetres.

3

Measure Width C — Right Side

Measure the right angled section of your bay, from the second angle to the back wall, in millimetres.

4

Add Them Up — Overall Width

Add A + B + C together to get your overall bay width. This is the number you'll enter into the pricing calculator.

5

Measure the Recess Height

Measure from the top of the opening down to the window sill, in millimetres. One height measurement is fine — they're usually the same across all three sections.

A few things worth knowing

  • Use a metal tape measure if you have one — fabric ones tend to stretch and won't give you reliable numbers.
  • Measure in millimetres. It's simpler than working with centimetres and decimals.
  • Measure each section separately — rather than trying to do the full bay in one go.
  • These are guide measurements for your guide price, so there's no need to worry about being millimetre-perfect. We'll take care of the precise measurements at the survey.
  • Have an older or slightly uneven bay? Not a problem — just do your best and let us know when you send through your photos.
